What do you do at Verner?
I am Vice President of Child and Family Services. I am able to be apart of an amazing group of Educators, Mental Health Specialist, Health Specialist, Family Specialist, Directors and more who all are working to provide care and education for our youngest citizens and their families.
What are your credentials/past experiences, for working in your position?
Children deserve communities in which they can thrive, and caregivers that value and understand early development and education. My entire professional career has been dedicated to being a part of the lives of children aged 0-5 and their parents, caregivers, and educators during these critical and dynamic learning years. I believe that fostering the skills of dedicated teachers, through quality training and professional development, is key to giving young children opportunities to reach their fullest potential.
My professional background has provided me a deep understanding of the complex, interacting roles that operate in early childcare. In addition to working directly with young children and their families as an early interventionist and as a mixed age-inclusion teacher in a classroom birth to three in NYC at Bank Street Family Center, I have served as admissions coordinator and interim director of the Bank Street Family Center. I have also been a “teacher of teachers” and worked in Bank Street graduate school as an instructor and advisor as well as a facilitator in Bank Street’s Education Center with projects in New Haven, New Jersey, and NYC Pre-K for all, helping to prepare NYC teachers to integrate developmentally meaningful and emotionally and culturally responsive practice into their classrooms.
What do you like about working at Verner?
I am grateful each and every day to be working alongside dedicated, passionate people who care so deeply about children, families, educators, and the field of early childhood. People at Verner really care about high-quality and best practices. Each day I get to see the delight in a child’s eye as they discover new things, and see the dedication of families who are doing everything they can to make sure their children have what they need.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
If I am honest, it is reading up on child development, early education, quality environments, adult development, and family engagement. I feel I never have enough time to read all there is to know and see all the other people who are doing great work that is inspiring and refueling. I try to get out into the woods for a walk, sit with my dog, laugh with my family, and take pause when I can.
