Inclement Weather Policy
Because our families and staff travel vast distances to our three locations across the county, Each Verner site will follow a specific school or district on the first day of a weather event:
On the second day of a weather event, regardless of Buncombe County Schools’ decision, our President & CEO will make a decision based on the safety and well-being of families and staff for each individual center.
**Verner has the right to make an alternate decision that meets the needs of our program and families regardless of Buncombe County's decision on inclement weather days. **
If the weather is severe enough for any of our centers to remain closed or open late,
this information will be posted by 6:30 am in the following ways:
Please help us keep everyone in the Verner community safe by making sure that we can reach you or someone on your child’s emergency form at all times, but especially when winter weather is predicted. Be sure to update your emergency contact list when names and numbers might change. These forms can be found with your child’s teacher or you can speak to the Center Director.
- Verner East will follow Buncombe County Schools - Owen District.
- Verner Central will follow Buncombe County Schools - Erwin District.

Water Testing
The state of North Carolina requires all Early Childhood Programs to test their water for lead at any water source in the building. All of Verner Center for Early Learning's water sources were tested in 2020 and found the following results:

The state of North Carolina requires all Early Childhood Programs to test their water for lead at any water source in the building. All of Verner Center for Early Learning's water sources were tested in 2020 and found the following results:
- Verner East - All water sources tested at or below 0.1 ppb
- Verner Central - 1 water source testing 0.331ppb and is within safe limits.
There is no safe level of lead in water for children. Verner practices safe water habits by:
- designating drinking faucets and non drinking faucets.
- allowing water to run for 1-5 minutes when faucets have been inactive for an extended period.
- using cold water for food preparation
- regularly maintaining equipment to ensure safety.
