Wait List and Turnover
Due to the high demand for childcare and the popularity of Verner as a childcare provider, a waiting list is in place for all ages at each center. The waiting list is not based on a first come first served model. Instead, it is determined by turnover in a particular classroom to replace the slot for that child’s age. Additionally, Verner maintains a commitment to a blended enrollment including 50% low-income families and at least 10% children with a special need. Most openings occur between May and September, as our preschoolers move on to kindergarten, but occasionally openings happen mid-year.

Early Head Start
You will be contacted to set an appointment to finalize your application. The mission of Early Head Start is to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, enhance the development of very young children, and promote healthy families. Early Head Start is an intensive, comprehensive, flexible, culturally sensitive program that is designed to reinforce and respond to the unique strengths and needs of each individual child and family. Early Head Start provides free services primarily for low-income families that meet the federal income guidelines. Verner Early Head Start offers children and families comprehensive services including child development, health, and family services. Once enrolled, children are eligible for Early Head Start services until three years of age or the end of the program year in which they have turned three.
Early Head Start Center-Based option
Verner offers center-based care at our four sites in Buncombe County and Asheville City. Where you live will determine which location you may qualify for. Before and after care may be arranged for a child with a payment plan or through a subsidy voucher, if the family qualifies.
Early Head Start Home-Based option
Verner provides services to pregnant women and children (ages birth to 3) in their homes. Services for pregnant women include prenatal education and individualized support during the pregnancy and after the baby is born. Families of children birth to 3 years of age receive weekly home visits to support them in their role as the primary caregiver of their child and to facilitate the child’s optimal development. Families also participate in “Family Play and Learn” events each month. These events support child development by strengthening the parent/child bond, while giving families the opportunity to see their children interact with peers.
Child Care Subsidy or Voucher Program
(click on any part of this section to be sent to the website for more information) – If you have vouchers you may apply for our wait list below. Please note that in order for Verner to provide high-quality early care and education, families with full-time vouchers will be asked to pay the difference between the subsidy payment and our tuition rates.
This program assists eligible families with a portion of their child’s tuition costs. In broad terms, families that might qualify would include:
1. parents of certain income levels who are working 30 hours a week or more, or going to school full-time, or a combination of the two.
